Church Planting in the
Piedmont Triad Presbytery

The Piedmont Triad Presbytery (PTP) was formed in July 2001 as a body committed to expanding the Kingdom of God through church multiplication. The vision of the original six churches was to “focus on being a connectional church committed to the planting of ten new congregations within the region over the next five years”—which means that church planting is in the DNA of our presbytery.

Although we recently suffered through several years of loss, grief, and conflict, we are currently in the process of reigniting that original vision. In 2022, we began a new work in High Point (the first PCA church in High Point in nearly 40 years!) and now long to see healthy gospel churches planted in a number of other towns and cities in our region. So whether you are a prospective church planter or you are considering giving financial resources to the work that God is entrusting to us, we are excited to share this vision with you. The fields are white for the harvest!

A vigorous and continuous approach to church planting is the only way to guarantee an increase in the number of believers, and is one of the best ways to renew the whole body of Christ.
— Timothy Keller, "Why Plant Churches?"

Interested in Planting?

While it’s true that some may be more prepared to plant a church than others, we are looking for men with proven character, a healthy marriage & family life, evangelistic zeal, and a deep reliance on prayer. In addition, we are seeking those (1) committed to Christ-centered preaching and (2) winsomely Reformed in their philosophy of ministry.

Prospective planters must also be willing to be evaluated through the MNA Church Planting Assessment Center and participate in a rigorous interview process with the PTP Church Planting & Missions Team.

Financial Support

The PTP is dedicated to making sure the planter is set up to succeed in fundraising and budgeting. When a new mission church is established and a planter is called to the work of forming the church, a temporary governing body (called a Temp Session) will help the planter set up a budget and provide accountability and guidance.

Our presbytery finances each church plant for $70,000 over the course of four years, and our goal is to raise that number as more supporting churches and individuals join our work.

Care & Development

We know that church planters and their wives (if married) typically face an incredible amount of anxiety, loneliness, spiritual warfare, and relational conflict. Most pastors who pursue planting are already well educated and experienced, but there are also important soft skills that often get neglected, such as emotional intelligence, cultural awareness, and the cultivation of a healthy marriage & family life. Our commitment is to make sure each planter has access to a coach, a counselor, and a cohort of other pastors that will enable him to thrive; and that each planter’s wife (if married) also has access to the same care.
